Inspiring Women of Faith to Learn and Lead, Transforming Church

"Communion"
Rev. Kama Jongerius-Zuidema
Kama Jongerius-Zuidema was raised in Rock Rapids, Iowa.
Her home church, First Reformed, nurtured her beautifully and consistently.
At that time, however, women in ordained positions of leadership were
non-existent. This derth of ordained female role models continued until
Kama began attending Western Seminary in 1988. Experiencing the "feminine
side" of church leadership was critical in the formation of her faith,
prayer life, her understanding of the sacraments and in the shaping of
her pastoral identity.
Being an experiential learner, Kama always found the
sacrament of communion meaningful. In learning about the deeper realities
of communion and in receiving the bread and cup from female and male pastors,
communion became an increasingly rich and important part of Kama's faith.
"Ingesting Christ" --being filled with the Spirit of Christ
--happens in many ways. But the Eucharist is the most tangible of them
all.
