About the WITNESS Logo The WITNESS logo shows Mary Magdalene with Jesus at the tomb of resurrection. Mary is standing in front of a stone has been rolled away from the opening. Jesus radiates light and glory which shines on Mary's face despite the dark tomb. Christianity is founded on the words of Mary Magdalene and the other women. The women were first to bear witness to the world of their discovery that Jesus had conquered death. Even though in their culture they were unlikely candidates, they were sent out by Jesus to "go and tell". Thus they were given the role of an apostle by Jesus, since an apostle is defined as one who is sent to tell. The women at the tomb are sometimes called, "The apostles to the apostles."
The original logo was created by Rev. Char Ellison, the first board chair of WITNESS. It was then edited by Kim Vincent. The summer of 2003, the logo was reinterpreted by Liz De Braber in color on silk. This was commissioned by the WITNESS board as a parting gift for Rev. Diane Maodush-Pitzer our founder and first executive director. |
